Recreating Gesture: the Replica of the Celtic Torque of Montans
From 3 July
to 21 September, 2025
L’École des Arts Joailliers
16 bis boulevard Montmartre
75009 Paris
L’École des Arts Joailliers presents a completely unprecedented research project, at the intersection of archaeology and the history of craftsmanship: the reconstruction of the Celtic torque from Montans.
As part of experimental archaeology, this collaborative adventure aims to understand the techniques and craftsmanship of a bygone era by reconstructing the creative gestures used to make the studied object. It is a Celtic necklace discovered in 1843 in Montans in the Tarn region, dating back more than 2,000 years.
Discover this unique exhibition created in partnership with the Montans Archaeological Center and the National Archaeological Museum. This project was made possible thanks to the talent of Antoine Legouy, master chiseler and Meilleur Ouvrier de France, and Grégory Weinstock, Director of High Jewelry Crafts at Van Cleef & Arpels.
Throughout the exhibition, L’École des Arts Joailliers invites visitors to continue their discovery by exploring the architecture and history of the Hôtel de Mercy-Argenteau during tours of the listed salons dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, exceptionally open to the public.
A cultural program, including round table discussions, completes this unique experience.
