After many years as a collector of Old Master Paintings and Drawings, Franck Baulme became active as a dealer in 2008. In 2014, he opened his gallery at 1 Quai Voltaire in Paris, in the Hôtel de Tessé, an 18th century town house, opposite the Louvre where he shows works from the 16th to the 19th centuries, mostly French, Italian, Flemish and Dutch. Twice a year, thematic exhibitions of paintings and drawings provide a focal point for the gallery’s activities.

Since the gallery opened, many museums have enriched their collections there with major acquisitions. This has been the case for the Musée du Louvre, the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, the Musée de la Vie Romantique, the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Orléans, the Royal Castle of Warsaw, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among many others.

Franck Baulme focuses on seeking out works that are exceptional due to the creator, the provenance or the theme. The gallery has recently sold a spectacular portrait of the cardinal de Bonsy by Domenichino which had remained with the descendants of the Duke of Castries, who were related to the Bonsy family, and a major painting by Jean Jacques Bachelier, exhibited at the Salon of 1765 and considered lost.

At Fine Arts Paris, the gallery will present works just as important as these: an overdoor by Louis de Boullogne painted for the Fine Arts Cabinet of Charles Perrault, a large picture showing Paris and his first wife, Oenone made by Jan van Bijlert that was owned by the painter Jean-Baptiste Marie Pierre, an oil portrait by Jean-Baptiste Perronneau from the Lagerfeld collection, and a masterpiece of the French painter Hyacinthe Collin de Vermont, as well as a spectacular composition of Venus and Adonis by Pietro Antonio Rotari.
