On the advice of Matisse and Jeanne Bucher, Dina Vierny, Maillol’s last model, decided to open a gallery in 1947.

She moved into 36 rue Jacob, a former “bougnat” converted into a wooden showcase by Auguste Perret. The gallery became famous in Paris thanks to its first Maillol exhibition, and went on to make a name for itself with exhibitions of works by Rodin, Henri Laurens and Matisse.

In the early 1980s, Olivier Lorquin, son of Dina Vierny, took over the running of the gallery, before handing it over to his sons Pierre and Alexandre in 2021. From then on, they redirected the gallery’s strategy towards Impressionism, modern and post-war art, and diversified the list of artists.
