SILVIA FURMANOVICH

Brazil, United States

With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Silvia Furmanovich is one of the most innovative jewellery artists of our time. Born in São Paulo into a family of Italian goldsmiths, she learned precision work from her father, who created jewellery for the Vatican. She launched her appointment-only business in 1998 and opened her boutique in São Paulo in 2009.

Her bold designs combine precise details and innovative techniques, drawing inspiration from nature, ancient cultures and unique materials. While her travels influence her work, her interpretation of world cultures remains unique. She creates timeless, easy-to-wear works of art, combining artefacts, traditional techniques and various materials. She works with wood marquetry, ebony, oxidised copper, vintage lacquer, shells, bamboo and netsukes, which she complements with gold and precious stones, including Brazil’s iconic coloured stones.

She has collaborated with major cultural institutions around the world. In 2022, she designed jewellery for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Heirloom project, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Islamic wing, calling on artisans who preserve ancestral techniques. She then partnered with the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston for a similar project.
