6 Young Talents at FAB Paris

FAB Paris honors 6 promising and still under-the-radar young galleries

After the great success of the first edition of the Young Talents section in 2023, FAB Paris is renewing the adventure this year.

The selection has been expanded to include young foreign dealers, with the condition of exhibiting two pieces priced under €25,000.

They will exhibit in a shared space designed by Victor Bonnivard.

The exhibition curators, along with the organizers, have selected :

The 6 Young Talents

Jonathan F. Kugel (Belgium)

Heir to a lineage of Parisian antique dealers of which he represents the seventh generation, Jonathan F. Kugel trained in London galleries, notably with the Tomasso Brothers, specialists in classical sculptures and Renaissance bronzes.

After pop-up exhibitions of contemporary art at antique dealers between Brussels, Paris and London, he settled in the Sablon district in 2019. In a building from 1888, his Cabinet of Contemporary Curiosities presents artists combining tradition and modernity, creating a fascinating dialogue between ancient and contemporary works.

Giulia de Jonckheere (Belgique)

At 29 years old, Giulia de Jonckheere already has an impressive career. She developed a passion for design during an internship at Piasa in 2016. After creating an online platform, Giulia de Jonckheere participated in PAD and BRAFA, sharing space with major galleries.

Her favorite designers are Italians from the 50s to 70s such as Ettore Sottsass, or Americans like Paul Evans or George Nakashima.

At FAB Paris, she will exhibit a suspended cabinet by Clotilde Ancarani, a Belgian artist she represents, and a table by Ado Chale, a famous Belgian creator.

Cole Myers (USA)

Cole Myers, a young antique dealer in his thirties from Kansas City, promotes French antiques in the United States. His success with celebrities has led to his selection for a documentary series about the antique dealer profession, which will continue filming during FAB Paris.

A specialist in 19th-century pieces, Cole Myers has sold two remarkable items to the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City: a mechanical desk by Fischer (1834) and a secretary by Barbetti (1851), the latter having been created for the Great Exhibition and bearing the Troubetzkoy coat of arms.

At FAB Paris, Cole Myers will exhibit a set of four rosewood armchairs attributed to Jeanselme (circa 1835) and an imposing carved Bordeaux armoire (circa 1780). The latter illustrates the exceptional quality of regional heritage, rivaling Parisian creations of the time.

Caroline Thieffry (France)

Passionate about late 19th-century art, Caroline Thieffry has specialized in Nabis and Symbolist painting. Her research at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne focused on Maurice Denis and Ferdinand Hodler.

Her experiences at Christie’s in the Old Master and 19th Century Paintings and Drawings departments inspired her to establish the Artwins gallery in 2021. It is now located at 16 rue de la Grange Batelière in Paris, the former location of the Mathieu Néouze gallery.

Caroline Thieffry participated in the Rare Book Fair and received the first ‘Prix Marcus’ from SNCAO-GA in 2023. Presented by Stéphane Bern, this award honors young dealers for their contribution to the promotion and preservation of heritage.

Since 2021, several works selected by Caroline Thieffry have joined numerous private and public collections, notably those of the Musée de l’Oise (MUDO).

At FAB Paris, Caroline Thieffry is presenting a work by Austrian artist Erwin Stolz and a painting by Hyppolite Fournier that was exhibited at the 1910 Salon. Modern in its execution and with its revisited religious iconography, this work also heralds the renovation of religious art initiated in 1919 by Maurice Denis through the foundation of the Ateliers d’Art Sacré.

Louis Marteau (France)

Born in 1989, Louis Marteau began his career in classical dance at the Paris Opera and the Royal Ballet in London. He then transitioned into the art market, training with Parisian auctioneers and assisting renowned galleries. His artistic background gives him a strong taste for staging and the aesthetics of lines.

His color blindness, which requires him to focus on lines and shapes, naturally led him towards drawing, attracted by the delicacy of the line that reminds him of the sketch of a dance step. Louis Marteau appreciates this living art, taking interest in works from the 16th century up to modern animation drawings.

At FAB Paris, he will exhibit a watercolored etching by Louis-Jean Desprez depicting the great eruption of Vesuvius, of which two variants are held in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the National Museum in Stockholm.

Léo Lefèvre (France)

With a degree in art history from the University of Nanterre and the École du Louvre, Léo Lefèvre has specialized in 19th and 20th century painting and drawing. His thesis on Raymond Bigot, an animal artist, was supervised by Claire Barbillon, the first female director of the École du Louvre.

Located near Drouot, Léo Lefèvre presents works by various artists, from André Devambez to Lorenzo Fernandez. For FAB Paris, he will exhibit a pastel by Odilon Redon and an oil on canvas by Lorenzo Fernandez.

Victor Bonnivard,
set designer for the “Young Talents” stand 2024

After honing his skills at India Mahdavi, Victor Bonnivard opened his studio in late 2018. There, he champions the concept of “heritage decorator” with a predilection for the 19th century and the Romantic era.

Relying on a network of artisans who use traditional techniques, he reissues antique fabrics, his great passion, from archives, particularly those of Pierre Frey.
