Fine Arts Paris

Based at 31 Rue de Penthièvre in Paris, Galerie Bert specialises in the drawings of Jean Cocteau, for whom it has organised several exhibitions.

The gallery also takes part in museum exhibitions on the poet’s work.

For our first appearance at the Fine Arts Paris fair, we have chosen to place Cocteau’s work within the artistic context of his era; the exhibition will therefore feature works by Picasso, Picabia, Bérard, Max Jacob, Jean Hugo and others. The exhibition is titled “Cocteau Galaxy.”

Oil on canvas

Signed and dated

This painting belonged to Jean Marais.

Although Jean Cocteau expressed himself extensively through drawing, his paintings are rare; their number is estimated at around one hundred.

Cocteau wrote about this young American man who was asleep, whom he met in New York and whose portrait he later painted in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat at the Villa Santo Sospir.

In the film he directed in 1952 about the Villa, one can see the painting of which the poet was particularly proud.
