Montreal, a city of many enticements, had conspicuously lacked a major art gallery of international calibre until the summer of 1987 when Landau Fine Art opened to critical acclaim in the gracious row of grey stones known as Passage du Musée.
The creation of Robert Landau and his wife Alice Landau, the gallery has focused primarily on the great masters of the early to mid-twentieth century such as Picasso, Dubuffet, Léger, Miró, Giacometti, Jawlensky, Moore, Kandinsky and Van Dongen.
In the intervening three decades the gallery has expanded to well over 20,000 square feet of elegant space, including a gallery in Meggen, Switzerland, complemented by museum-quality works of art.

Henry Moore (1898–1986) was one of the greatest modern sculptors of the 20th century and arguably the most internationally recognised British artist of his time. He was renowned for his semi abstract monumental works, most notably the reclining figure which was his signature form. It would reappear throughout his career.
Reclining Figure: Curved, dating from 1977, is a unique black marble carving 144 cm in length and is one of Moore’s seminal and unique carvings. It was recently admired by Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands for its undulating masses and sensual curves that could be likened to the landscapes and hills of his birthplace, Yorkshire. It was sold by Moore to an American private collector.
In 1983 it was publicly displayed at the Metropolitan Museum, New York in an exhibition of sculptures and drawings mounted to mark Moore’s 85th birthday entitled, “Henry Moore 60 Years of His Art.” The exhibition formed part of the festival, ‘Britain Salutes New York.’ The piece was later acquired directly from the American collector by Landau Fine Art.
