Antiquarian bookseller and manuscript expert, Jean-Baptiste de Proyart began his career at Sotheby’s in London in 1993, before opening the books and manuscripts department at Sotheby’s Paris.
Independent since 2004, specializing in the appraisal, purchase and resale of manuscripts and antiquarian books, Jean-Baptiste de Proyart has organized numerous prestigious sales of book and manuscript collections, including those of Pierre Berès, Jean Patou, André Tissot-Dupont and François Mitterrand.
Jean-Baptiste de Proyart is a member of the SFEP.

Venice and Russia in the Age of Enlightenment: a remarkable copy bound in contemporary morocco bearing the coat of arms of Ivan Shuvalov, the greatest patron of the arts in 18th-century Russia.
Ivan Shuvalov founded the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and was a correspondent of Voltaire, Diderot, D’Alembert, and Helvetius. The volume subsequently entered the library of the Princes of Beauvau-Craon at the Château d’Haroué.
